Wantonwells Farm

About the farm

Wantonwells is a small family farm near Insch in Aberdeenshire. Most of it is mixed woodland now; the rest is a market garden, and increasingly a place where people come to learn how to make things from what grows here.

Our story

  1. 1990–1994

    Humble beginnings

We bought the farm and started farming. Cattle and sheep roamed the land.

  2. 1994–2018

    Reforesting Scotland

Most of the farm went into the Reforesting Scotland scheme, developing mixed woodland for ecological purposes alongside areas of timber.

  3. 2018

    A farm within a farm

Beatrice moved home to make use of the remaining arable land, and the market garden began.

  4. 2021

    To market

We started selling vegetables at the Huntly farmers market.
